LA Galaxy striker Giovani dos Santos will receive the award at the Sports Excellence TODAY Latin Awards

CARSON, Calif. (Thursday, October 8, 2015) – The front of the LA Galaxy Giovani dos Santos will be honored at Latin Awards TODAY presented by Los Angeles Times and today Sunday, October 11 at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood in support of the Hispanic Scholarship Fund.
In its commitment to the welfare of Latinos – from all sources – in the community of Los Angeles through their athletic endeavors, sharing the sport with Mexicans and now with the American public, Dos Santos will receive the recognition of Excellence in Sports .
TODAY Latin Awards is a bilingual / bicultural event that honors those in the Latino community who exemplify leadership, service and dedication to serve as an example for their peers and the next generation. It is the only event of its kind held Latinos in the US by a major newspaper group. It is a celebration of Latino culture that we have in common and the vibrant and diverse voices within it.
Among the public figures previously honored in Latin Awards TODAY include Oscar de La Hoya, Ozomatli, Eugenio Derbez, Angelica Maria, Jose Jose, Kate del Castillo, La Santa Cecilia, Paul Rodriguez, among many others.
Dos Santos signed with LA Galaxy on July 15 from Villarreal CF in La Liga in the Spanish first division where he spent the last two seasons. Dos Santos has also played for FC Barcelona in La Liga and the English team Tottenam Hotspur FC in the English Premier League. Internationally, Dos Santos is one of the most successful Mexican players, debuting with the selection tricolor in 2006. Moreover, Dos Santos has experience playing in the UEFA Champions League, FIFA World Cup, CONCACAF Gold Cup and in the Olympics and other international competitions. Dos Santos is a product of La Masia, FC Barcelona Academy, debuting professionally for FC Barcelona in 2006, scoring on his debut against AGF Aarhus in a friendly.
The native of Monterrey began his career with the Mexican national team at under-17 level after helping the Mexican National category to win the U-17 World Cup in 2005 and also winning the silver ball in the tournament. He also participated in the U-20 World Cup 2007 helping the team reach the quarterfinals of the competition. In 2012, the striker made history with Mexico scoring three goals and leading the tricolor team win the gold medal at the 2012 Olympics in London for the first time for the Mexican national team. This summer, Dos Santos helped the Mexican National Team to the title of Gold Cup 2015, registering a goal and an assist during the tournament. This season with LA Galaxy, Dos Santos has scored four goals and added six assists in addition to a goal in all competitions.
The award ceremony will take place at the Dolby Theater in Hollywood on Sunday, October 11, 2015. The celebration will begin with a red carpet followed by the awards ceremony.
