JORGE MAYSONET JR.
BATTLES RAMESIS GIL THIS FRIDAY
October 23, 2012 – The “Night Of Champions” fightcard, taking place on Friday, October 26 at the Roque Nido Stella Coliseum in Guayama, Puerto Rico, will mark a interesting test in the young career of rising prospect, Jorge “Machito” Maysonet Jr. (9-0, 8 KOs) from Puerto Rico.
Maysonet Jr. will be facing the always dangerous and complicated, Ramesis “Payasito” Gil (8-4-5, 5 KOs) from the Dominican Republic. The fight is scheduled for eight rounds at the lightweight division (135 lbs).
“This was a fight that had to happen to let us know where we stand. Whoever has doubts about Maysonet Jr., will witness his immense skill level this Friday in Guayama”, said Javier Bustillo, president of Universal Promotions.
As an amateur standout, Maysonet Jr., amassed a record of 140(W)-10(L), winning various local tournaments like the José Barrientos and the José “Cheo” Aponte competitions. In professional boxing, all his knockouts have come in the very first round.
“I have prepared myself with a lot of intensity. My father (Jorge Maysonet Sr.) has trained me very well and this Friday Ramesis will find out what a true puncher hits like,” commented Maysonet. “Ramesis says I only fight for four rounds, we will see if he lasts to the fourth round but I’m ready to go the distance if he can handle my power.”
Maysonet Jr. is a member of “Team Puerto Rico”, a collaboration between Gary Shaw Productions, Universal Promotions and Warriors Boxing. Their goal is to gather Puerto Rico’s best boxing talent.
It’s been a great year in 2012 for Gill as he’s beaten Carney Bowman (16-1, 7 KOs) from Pennsylvania and Luis Joel González (9-1, 5 KOs) in Puerto Rico. Both victories were by decision and came in their hometowns.
“I would like to thank Javier Bustillo for taking me into consideration to beat one of his fighters. For me there are eight rounds and for Maysonet there are four because he has not crossed the Niagara Falls in a bicycle like me and I will make him go through that”, said a very motivated Gil.
There will be a clash of unbeaten fighters battling at the super bantamweight division in the co-feature when Edgardo “Eggie” Laboy (4-0, 2 KOs) and Jonell “Gato” Nieves (4-0, 3 KOs) go at it in a four round bout.
“This will be a tough fight for both of us. I’m in optimum condition and it will be a war from start to finish,” claimed Laboy, who is promoted by Gary Shaw Productions and Universal Promotions.
Jonell Nieves is also expecting a war as he states, “I feel good and I know it is a big challenge between two unbeaten fighters. I am a aware that it will be a war and that is what I want to give the people of Guayama on Friday”.
In other bouts Puerto Rican, Steven Martínez (12-1, 10 KO) vs. Edgar Pérez (5-0, 3 KO) battle in an 8-rounds bout at the light middleweight division, Miguel “el Gallo” Marrero (6-0, 3 KOs) will go against Leroy Padilla (1-7, 1 KO) at the super featherweight division.
